The original idea behind the Foti Filter mask was to serve individuals in need of respiratory protection during long distance air travel. However, there are many more beneficial uses:

Infectious Disease Prevention:
Microbes — which are so small that they may be inhaled through a dry filter mask — are more likely to be stopped when the mask fibers are swollen with water and inter-fiber bridges of fluid entrap fine dust and germs. The tight facial fit keeps spores, pollens, molds and bacteria out, while helping to contain infectious organisms that the wearer produces. Using this device near other individuals can help prevent the spread of communicable diseases and protect family, friends and coworkers.

Occupational Hazards:
The wetted surface is ideal for trapping dust particles in the workshop, especially where fine sanding particles may be re-circulated in air conditioned environments.

Foti Filters will not filter out fumes or gases. They will not protect against organic pesticides, herbicides, and other man-made chemicals, which tend to dissolve in and pass through water.
